Congestion is expected on Monday on the Île-aux-Tourtes bridge, which connects the west of the island of Montreal and the municipalities of the MRC of Vaudreuil-Soulanges, in Montérégie, since only two lanes per direction are available.
A new crack has been detected on the side of the bridge towards Montreal, according to what the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility indicated in a press release published Friday evening.
The discovery of this new crack therefore results in the closure of a traffic lane for an indefinite period.
The two-lane configuration per direction, put in place over the weekend, was therefore maintained on Monday in order to carry out analyses.
“The ministry is already carrying out interventions to strengthen the infrastructure and keep it safe until the opening of the new bridge, in particular with concrete work this weekend,” it was indicated.
The Île-aux-Tourtes bridge has been in service since 1965, but the Ministry of Transport assures “that traffic on the bridge remains safe” and that in case of doubt, it will not hesitate to prohibit the access to the bridge.
