The disc Only the Strong Survive bears the name of a song by Jimmy Butler, which is one of the 15 songs included in it.

“I wanted to do an album where I was just singing,” Springsteen said in a statement. And what better music to do this than the great American repertoire of the 60s and 70s? I was inspired by Levi Stubbs, David Ruffin, Jimmy Ruffin, The Iceman Jerry Butler, Diana Ross, Dobie Gray and Scott Walker, among others. »

Those who have seen Springsteen in concert know that he likes the soul repertoire. The disc will be released three months before the start of his tour with his E Street Band.

Among the songs he will perform are Night shift Commodores, The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore by The Walker Brothers, When She Was My Girl Four Tops, I wish it would rain Temptations and Someday We’ll Be Together of Diana Ross and the Supremes.

Soul legend Sam Moore lends his vocals to two of the tracks.
