Spanking has been banned by law since 2019, yet nearly 80% of parents admit to using it. Against this violence, training courses can be ordered by the courts.

They crossed the red line. Nine overwhelmed parents caught up in the courts for violence committed against their children. All are forced to follow a parental responsibility course, in addition to a sentence for those who have been convicted or as an alternative to prosecution for others. The ambition: to empower parents, to guide them towards another way of educating their children.

Free the floor

Céline is 43 years old and has three children. Here for having slapped her 15-year-old son, she could not digest the police intervention. “What was most unfair to me was police custody”she explained. “Spending a night in prison is very, very hard”. The course always begins with an explanation of the law. The exchange with the magistrate, who leads the course, allows us to begin to free the voices of anxious parents. A way to see that the perpetrators of violence have often been its victims. The cost of the course, 350 euros, is the sole responsibility of the parent, this is part of the sanction.
