A couple arrested following a mad police chase in Montérégie

A 38-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were arrested in a stolen vehicle in Montreal after causing a mad police chase overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, in Saint-Lazare, Montérégie.

It all started when the police saw a vehicle that had just made an illegal U-turn in front of them on Harwood Boulevard, and which had a license plate that did not correspond to this type of vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle would then have taken Highway 30 to stop in the middle of the ramp to Highway 20, eastbound, before restarting with a bang at the sight of the patrol vehicle of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) .

A chase ensued on Highway 20, eastbound. The vehicle left the road on rue Chevrier, in Saint-Lazare, where the two suspects tried to continue their escape on foot. They were quickly caught.

Already targeted by a dozen arrest warrants, the driver is exposed to several charges, in particular for flight, concealment, dangerous driving, obstructions and possession of narcotics, indicated a spokeswoman for the SQ.

He would be kept in detention pending his appearance during the day at the Salaberry-de-Valleyfield courthouse.

For her part, the passenger, who was in possession of burglary tools, was released with a promise to appear later, it was added.
