Emmanuel Macron detailed, Monday March 11, the contours of the end-of-life bill. It offers assistance in dying through the administration of a lethal product under very strict conditions. The text already raises many questions.

Neither euthanasia nor assisted suicide. “Assistance in dying”, this is the term used by Emmanuel Macron to present THE bill on end of life. A French model, according to the Head of State, who designs, in an interview with The cross and to Releasethe first outlines of its application: “The administration of the lethal substance is carried out by the person himself or, when he is not able to do so physically, (…) or by a voluntary person designated by them, (…) either by the doctor or nurse.”

Debates relaunched

A bill which has revived the debates. Many associations calling for developments on the subject welcome progress, while remaining cautious about the implementation of this assistance in dying. On the contrary, several caregiver associations are up in arms, and believe that this is a contempt for their work. In the political class, opinions remain measured, even if on the side of the National Rally, this bill does not seem to convince.
