In Belfort (Territoire de Belfort), a company has found the solution to recycle hard plastic, in order to make a coating for car parks. The explanations in the section An idea for France, of the 1 p.m. newspaper of France 2.

Recently, in a waste collection center in Haute-Saône, all hard plastics such as old buckets, cans or toys are collected in a separate dumpster. “In four days, we fill a dumpster, it’s a hell of a volume”, confides Bouchaïb Mlioued, sorting adviser at the Héricourt waste disposal center (Haute-Saône). This new recycling channel is the idea of Pierre Quinonero, co-founder of Purple Alternative Surface. He intends to make it fruitful: “Before, these plastics were incinerated, today we will transform them into raw materials”he explains.

A dozen Alsatian recycling centers have agreed to play the game. The plastics are crushed, heated, melted and cooled in a mould. The result: black slabs that interlock like cobblestones, designed to cover car parks. The coating is very easy to install, and the space between each slab allows water to infiltrate in the event of heavy rain, and thus avoid flooding.
