A “inadmissible act”, denounces the mayor of Beauvais. The commemorative stele in memory of the inhabitants of the city of the Voisinlieu stadium and the Harkis was vandalized. The city announced a complaint on Friday, February 24.

It was on his Facebook profile that Mayor Franck Pia first denounced a “an inadmissible act which undermines the duty of memory that we strongly defend and bring to life, and which undermines the respect we owe them all”found France Bleu Picardie.

Franck Pia publishes the photo of the damage to the place. We see that the commemorative plaque has been torn off. “Our determination remains intact to keep their memory alive”he concludes, assuring that “yes, we filed a complaint of course”.

This stele was installed in November 2019, to honor the inhabitants of the barracks, built after the bombings of 1940. The city of Beauvais had indeed been very affected by the attacks. These habitats first welcomed the dislodged, those who had lost their homes in the bombings of the Second World War. Then the place was used to house the immigrants who worked on the reconstruction of Beauvais and finally the Harkis, who arrived after 1962. The buildings were dismantled in 1984.
