A commemorative stamp in honor of Monique Mercure

Canada Post on Wednesday launched a commemorative stamp in honor of Quebec actress Monique Mercure. A ceremony was held at the Rialto Theater for the occasion, to highlight the work of this great lady of stage and screen, who died in 2020.

The stamp, unveiled on Wednesday, will be officially issued on November 14.

Monique Mercure’s daughter, Michèle Mercure, her grandson, Pier-Yves Larouche, as well as the founder of Journées de la culture, Louise Sicuro, the director and CEO of the Canada Council for the Arts, Simon Brault, l Actress Patricia Tuslane and director Alice Ronfard also took part in the launch.

This recognition aims to celebrate the impact of Monique Mercure in the world of theatre, cinema and television. During her long career, the actress has notably received two Genie awards, the Best Actress award at Cannes, two Gémeaux awards, the Denise-Pelletier award, as well as a Governor General’s award for the performing arts for the whole of his artistic career.

The actress also served as Executive Director, Artistic Director and then Governor for Life of the National Theater School of Canada, which took part in the event.

Monique Mercure died in May 2020 from cancer.
