He laments “the ineffectiveness of the repressive policy” In France. A collective of associations including Doctors of the World and the Addiction Federation has launched a petition on the platform of the National Assembly demanding the abolition of criminal penalties for drug use. “We must prioritize health over repression”declared Monday, June 26 to AFP Marie Öngün-Rombaldi, member of the Collective for a new drug policy (CNPD), at the origin of the petition, and general delegate of the Addiction Federation.

According to her, consumer sanctions are “an obstacle to access to care, prevention and risk reduction”. “We are one of the most repressive countries in the world and one of the biggest consumers of cocaine and cannabis”she specifies, pleading the “pragmatism” facing a position “moral and ideological”.

A “turnkey” bill

The petition takes the form of a “turnkey” bill proposing to remove penalties for drug use. Open to signature for all, it may be entrusted to one of the eight permanent committees of the Palais Bourbon if it reaches 100,000 signatures. When a petition is signed by more than 500,000 people from at least 30 departments, it can then be debated in public session.

The CNPD would like the subject “is finally put on the agenda of political agendas in France”. On this issue, Emmanuel Macron for his part reaffirmed, on Monday during a trip to Marseille, his desire to fight against “recreational drug use”. The head of state announced that the payment of fixed fines for drug use may soon be “immediate, by credit card or cash”.
