A coin in honor of George Michael

(London) “Faith” will not be enough to obtain a new coin bearing the image of George Michael.

A silver version stamped by the British Royal Mint with the likeness of Michael with his aviator-style sunglasses, his swept-back locks and his budding beard that he sported in the video of his success Faith starts at 15.50 pounds ($26.57) and goes up to 5,305 pounds (over $9,090) for a limited edition gold coin.

Michael, who died in 2016 at the age of 53, had a big year in 2023. Last summer, Netflix released WHAM!a well-received documentary about the pop musical duo Michael formed with Andrew Ridgeley.

In the fall, Michael, who enjoyed a highly successful solo career after the band’s breakup, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. And four decades after the release of Last Christmas by WHAM!, the song topped the UK Christmas charts in December.

The George Michael Entertainment organization said it was deeply honored by the new plays.

“He would have been extremely proud and sincerely touched that a national institution had decided to pay tribute to his memory in this way,” the organization said.

The Mint has already created commemorative coins for David Bowie, Elton John, the Rolling Stones and Queen.
