A clandestine firearms factory dismantled in Charlemagne

An alleged firearms manufacturer in possession of a real small arsenal was arrested Tuesday in Charlemagne, on the North Shore of Montreal.

Jean-Philippe Dupont-Cormier, a 37-year-old man, was arrested and charged with unauthorized possession of firearms, possession of prohibited devices, manufacture of firearms, use of forgery, possession of firearms prohibited and breach of order, police said.

The strike, carried out by the Integrated Arms Trafficking Team (EILTA), resulted in the seizure of two semi-automatic homemade weapons, a rifle and several parts and tools intended for the manufacture of firearms .

Some 5,000 rounds of ammunition, 29 pounds of ammunition powder and around forty high-capacity 30- or 40-bullet magazines were also seized on the spot.

The police operation was made possible thanks to information from the public, police said.
