(France 2)

Despite the incarceration of the two alleged murderers of Philippe Coopman, the town of Grande-Synthe (North) remains traumatized by the tragedy as well as by the attack on a cousin of a suspect.

A 15-year-old boy was then found on the evening of Friday April 19 stripped, with his pants down and his face bleeding on a wooded road, far from any home. The victim is the cousin of one of Philippe Coopman’s alleged attackers. According to the mother of the young man attacked, it was an ambush in retaliation for Philippe’s death. “It was my son who took it, they could have killed him.”, laments his mother. The whole family would be threatened via social networks.

Increase police numbers

The assassination of Philippe Coopman, which occurred in Grande-Synthe, would make some people want revenge. They would particularly like to target the relatives of the alleged attackers. The mother of one of them explains that she had to take refuge far from her home to avoid being found. Faced with the risk of new attacks and an escalation in violence, the climate worries many residents. Philippe’s family and the city mayor called for calm. To strengthen security, the Northern police headquarters announced an increase in police numbers in the town.
