Many mayors are also faced with a lack of resources and red tape. To raise awareness of these difficulties, the city councilor of Caudrot, in Gironde, will walk to the Elysée: 650 km in three weeks.

His scarf, Jérémie Gaillard, mayor (SE) of Caudrot, will keep it throughout his career. A symbol for this mayor, campaigning to make his voice heard. “We have noticed for some time that we have difficulty obtaining things that seem natural enough and necessary enough for our territory. The idea is how, when we do not weigh much from a point from a local point of view (…), we manage to be heard”he explains.

An XXL walk

Education, security or even recognition of the natural disasters that have affected his town, the mayor of Caudrot took ten files in his backpack, heading to Paris. He has been preparing his XXL hike since September 2022. If he only wants to represent his municipality, Jérémie Gaillard is despite himself the spokesperson for rural villages. A few kilometers away, Cédric Gerbeau, the city councilor (SE) of Saint-Macaire (Gironde) confirms: “the load is getting heavier and heavier”.
