Every day, hundreds of properties change hands in Quebec, most without us knowing the fine details. That was before we were interested in it… Here are the latest transactions that caught our attention.
A pretty little church in the village of Colombourg, now annexed to Macamic, in Abitibi-Ouest, has just been sold for the modest sum of 6,000 dollars.
Located at 711, 2e-and-3e rank, the place of worship would have been built in 1939, shortly after the arrival of the first settler families in the region, according to the Directory of Cultural Heritage of Quebec.
Being used only on rare occasions, the Catholic church had become a burden for its parishioners, fewer and fewer of whom attended it. Heating, maintenance and insurance costs, and the imminent need to replace the roof led the parish to the difficult decision to get rid of it.
After a good year on the market and having during this time aroused the interest of a few rare buyers, it was finally sold by the Fabrique de la parish of Sainte-Claire for a fraction of the price initially hoped for, i.e. $6,000.

It goes without saying that this sale was concluded without a legal guarantee of quality, and this, at the risk and peril of the buyer, we can read in the deed of sale consulted. A transfer tax of $160.50 was added to the purchase price for the buyer.
On the last three-year assessment roll, the church and the land of some 3,613 square meters on which it was built were assigned a value of $32,100. This was an 84% reduction from its previous valuation of $203,900.
Both the Factory and the municipality do not yet know what the buyer intends to do with this old church. If everyone hopes that he will invest to restore it to its original beauty, no one can guarantee it. The zoning regulations for the premises, which have a mixed use, currently require it to be used for either residential or commercial purposes.
