A toddler has died after being hit by a 34-year-old motorist who was backing into the driveway of a private property. The tragic accident occurred Saturday on Béram Street in L’Épiphanie in Lanaudière.
Around 11 a.m., the emergency services went to L’Épiphanie concerning a collision involving a child whose exact age is not known.
“According to initial information, a 34-year-old driver reversed to leave the grounds of a private residence. During this maneuver, a toddler would have been caught while trying to recover an object on the ground, “said the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), Nicolas Scholtus.
Resuscitation maneuvers were carried out on the spot, then the child was transported to the Pierre-Le Gardeur hospital where, unfortunately, he was declared dead.
The major crime investigation service and SQ reconstructionists went to the scene of the accident to understand the circumstances of the collision.
During the call to 9-1-1, psychosocial workers collaborated with the people involved in this tragedy.
