Saint John the Baptist Church and its Entombment
The church is in the Gothic style. The construction of the choir began at the end of the 12th century, the nave and the side chapels were built from 1531 to 1548.
She is famous for its “Entombment” made in 1515 and its nativity scene in gilded wood dating from the 16th century. The Entombment is considered one of the finest examples in Europe and its restoration was completed in 2009.
The church can be visited like a museum where the innumerable sculptures harmoniously display Champagne and Italian art.
The circle of lights
The circle of lights in East Chaource a festival that mixes the arts, fire and nature. Organized since 2001 on the heritage site “les Poteries” in Chaource, a site that dates from the 16th century.
An original event, woven with poetry and authenticity where fireworks, installations, entertainment, shows, music and lights combine to re-enchant the surrounding nature and create a magical atmosphere.
More than 200 artists and young talents, ceramists, blacksmiths, bronziers, sculptors, visual artists and musicians, from all walks of life, share their passion and know-how for a whole weekend.
Welcomed by 250 volunteers, amateurs and dreamers of all ages, various audiences from all regions of France, wander between demonstrations, exhibitions, performances and workshops.
Today the festival is at a standstill, victim of the COVID crisis and victim of its success…. So what will be the future of this magnificent international event?
