a charity marathon of 50 hours of gaming in the service of research on rare diseases

For its fifth edition, the Telethon Gaming returns with an even richer formula. At the start of this video game mobilization which precedes the traditional weekend of the Telethon, 50 hours of non-stop streaming will be broadcast on the AFM Telethon’s Twitch and YouTube channels. After a neat 2021 edition, the charity marathon organized by France Télévisions and the AFM Téléthon is getting a makeover.

More than 150 web personalities will be present at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris from November 11, from 6 p.m., to November 13, 10 p.m., to help increase the donation counter. On the program: games of video games broadcast live, discussions with researchers and young people with disabilities, journeys in the metaverse or even challenges to be completed to stimulate donations.

Videographer and streamer Adrigeek, presenter at the event, talks enthusiastically about this project in which he is participating for the first time. “We are lucky to have visibility and communities. It’s always interesting to use that for a cause like the Telethon”begins Adrigeek, who has 1.23 million subscribers on his Youtube channel.

The Telethon Gaming system starts from a desire: to be able to bring together personalities from different worlds under the same banner, that of collecting money for research and helping the sick. To contribute to this dynamic, the streamers and influencers involved will set up “donations goals”, a donation incentive mechanism popularized in France in particular by the ZEvent. “These donation goals are above all excuses to have fun and encourage people to donate to advance research”, details AdriGeek. Donations which will be made mostly on Twitch, Paypal or even by SMS and which will contribute to the treatment of the sick and to the support of families.

“As a viewer, we will be able to see or discover streamers on their own channels, but also take a look at the central stage hosted on the Twitch of the AMF Téléthon”, details AdriGeek. During the 50 hours of continuous live, this central stage (named podium) will host, for each level of fundraising reached, the most singular challenges of the personalities mobilized, including Willokhlass, Purpledjo, DylanDelRey or even AdriGeek himself. At the same time, the podium will also be the place of intervention for young people affected by a rare disease and researchers from the Téléthon laboratories. A second stage will be dedicated to physical transformation challenges (makeup, cosplay or dyes).

The Téléthon Gaming is video games, but not only. Other areas will also be honored for these 50 hours of live broadcast without interruption. “Discussion sessions, challenges, moments of information, cooking, quizzes, there will be something for everyone”, announces AdriGeek. For their part, the graffiti artists FosR and Brunografter the paint cans will come out to create a very large format fresco in collaboration with streamers, researchers and young patients. The final work will be sold for the benefit of the Telethon, in real and digital version.

The metaverse and retrogaming will also be part of the game, respectively with virtual reality headsets offered to enjoy concerts in the virtual universe of the Telethon and arcade terminals which will bring back to life the cult games of the 90s.

“It’s a way to bring meaning to what we do. Video games go far beyond games alone at home. It’s also a way to contribute to raising money for things very concrete”, says Adrigeek. This is an approach that brings together and breaks the cliché of gamers, isolated in their rooms: “They are able to unite for beautiful projects, it’s the magic of the internet.” A magic which, to operate, must involve both the videographers and the public. “We are just a small stone added to the building of the Telethon Gaming, we need the spectators”, recalls the French streamer who says he is happy to see a transition from “Telethon with a slightly younger community”.

The Téléthon Gaming takes place from Friday November 11 at 6 p.m. on Téléthon France’s Twitch and YouTube channels, presented by videographer AdriGeek and several other presenters. On November 13 from 10 p.m. to midnight, you can also discover the total amount raised by streamers and experience all the reactions in an After broadcast on the Twitch channel of France Télévisions, hosted by France TV journalists Cédric Cousseau and Nacer Boubekeur.

These 50 hours of live will mark the opening of three weeks devoted to the dynamic Téléthon Gaming. Three weeks during which streamers and influencers will be invited to encourage their communities to donate. A global kitty will be open throughout these twenty days.

The end of the event will take place on December 2 and 3, during the Telethon weekend, where a new 30-hour streaming marathon will be organized at the Roland-Garros stadium. This great closing party of the Telethon Gaming will be accompanied by a program on France 2, presented by Samuel Etienne, from 12:30 a.m. to 2 a.m. on the night of Friday 2 to Saturday 3 December.

France Télévisions will bring you live on its Twitch channel all the backstage of the show from 10 p.m. with our journalists Nacer Boubekeur, Cédric Cousseau and Anthony Jammot, who will interview the streamers present but also the personalities who will come to dispute for the good cause a great tennis tournament on the Philippe-Chatrier court at Roland-Garros.
