Despite widespread vaccination, some countries are facing a new wave of the Covid-19 epidemic. Overview with the teams of the Journal de 20 Heures.
In Russia, the Covid-19 nightmare seems endless. On Saturday 23 October, record figures were announced: nearly 37,678 new cases and more than 1,000 deaths were declared. In a hospital in Kazan, there are no longer enough beds for patients. “Most of our patients develop the disease extremely quickly”, testifies a doctor. Only 33% of Russians are vaccinated. A new containment of Russia has been announced by Vladimir Putin.
While barrier gestures are no longer applied in the United Kingdom, nearly 50,000 cases are recorded every day. “We are really asking for action from the government”, testifies Linda Bauld, professor of public health. A third of the population is not fully vaccinated, as in Germany, where the epidemic resumes locally as in a municipality in Bavaria. “The problem is people who are not vaccinated”, declares a resident. In Australia, in Melbourne, we celebrate the end of a long confinement.
