Five more years at the head of the country. Saturday May 7 at the Élysée Palace, Emmanuel Macron was invested again as President of the Republic. A ceremony broadcast live on television in the morning, whose protocol is in line with previous ceremonies. A look back at the highlights of this investiture.

A ceremony marked by sobriety. Emmanuel Macron enters the Élysée village hall alone, to an air by Handel, played by the chamber orchestra of the Republican Guard. The president brushes his wife’s hand, exchanges a knowing look. In accordance with tradition, it is the President of the Constitutional Council, Laurent Fabius, who welcomes him, and proclaims the result of the election, taking his time. Make way for the very symbolic and solemn presentation of the necklace of Grand Master of the Legion of Honor.

Emmanuel Macron then begins a speech of investiture, more than reinvestiture. The president launches into a long anaphora around the verb “to act”, which he repeats nine times. At the end of a speech of only ten minutes, the president advances towards the full government. He greets his two predecessors present, a first, and lingers with his former Prime Minister, Édouard Philippe, with a very strong and noticed hug. Moment of emotion when Emmanuel Macron exchanges with the parents of Samuel Paty, the professor assassinated in 2020. A ceremony which ended in compliance with the protocol of the Fifth Republic, by the twenty cannon shots, fired at the Invalides.
