A centerpiece return for the Chiefs

Chris Jones is back for the Chiefs.

The star defensive end ended his strike on Monday, as he agreed to a new one-year contract. The details of the agreement have not been revealed, but according to informant Jordan Schultz, several bonuses are attached to the contract.

“Chris is an elite player in this league and over the last few years, he has developed as a leader on this team,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach said in a press release.

Jones attracted a lot of attention last week. He refused to line up with the Chiefs for Thursday’s opening game against the Lions, as he was still waiting to renegotiate his contract. Jones was due to spend the last year of a 4-year/80 million pact. However, he wanted a more generous agreement.

The 29-year-old American was a key piece in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory last season. In 107 games in the NFL, Jones has 243 tackles and 65 sacks.

Looks good for Kelce

It’s not just the return of Jones that has garnered attention for the Chiefs, as the news is good regarding tight end Travis Kelce.

Monday, at a press conference, head coach Andy Reid indicated that his athlete’s recovery has progressed well. Kelce suffered a hyperextended knee in practice and was forced to miss last Thursday’s game against the Detroit Lions.

The star player wanted to be in the game, but his coach decided to be cautious. The Kansas City club lost the flag 21 to 20.

“Travis is getting better. We’ll see how the rest of the day goes and tomorrow [mardi]. We’ll make a decision then,” Reid said, when asked about the possibility of seeing Kelce in uniform Sunday against the Jaguars in Jacksonville.

Against the Lions, quarterback Patrick Mahomes completed 21 of 39 passes for 226 yards and two touchdowns. He was also the victim of theft. The lack of consistency among the Chiefs receivers was singled out to explain the setback for the reigning Super Bowl champions.

“We’ll take care of the reception problem,” Reid said. I’m comfortable with our wide receiver team. We don’t normally drop passes, but it happened. We must correct the situation. I think we have the talent and we will get better the more we play.”
