There was, Sunday, May 15, a total lunar eclipse, which could be observed from France. This hadn’t happened for more than two and a half years.
It is an astonishing celestial phenomenon, a lunar eclipse, yet clearly visible all over the world. The lovers of the sky had made an appointment not to miss the event, as in Argentina. In France, the clouds spoiled the party a bit. The luckiest were able to see the eclipse with the naked eye, around 5:30 a.m., Monday, May 16. An astrophysicist was with his students on the roof of his university in the Paris suburbs.
“Fortunately, we had 3 minutes of clearing to see the full moon but almost completely hidden by the earth”says Hervé Dole, astrophysicist at the University of Paris-Saclay. During an eclipse, the earth, moon and sun are aligned. The sun’s rays pass on the sides, and illuminate the moon, giving it that particular red tint. The next lunar eclipse will take place in 2025, but to witness a beautiful eclipse clearly visible in France, it will be necessary to wait until December 2029.
