The risk of spreading this disease is “low” on the island, specifies the ARS. But this case comes two days after the detection of another in Mayotte, while an epidemic is raging in the neighboring islands of the Comoros.

A case of cholera was detected in Reunion on Wednesday, relays the Regional Health Agency (ARS) in a press release, Thursday March 21. This person had recently stayed in India, specifies the health authority. This information comes two days after the announcement of the detection of a case of cholera in Mayotte, while an epidemic is raging in the neighboring islands of the Comoros.

The risk of spreading this disease is “weak” in Reunion, specifies the ARS. “The necessary precautionary measures are being implemented and contact tracing is underway” to find people who may have been exposed to the virus, adds the organization, noting that the last case of cholera dates from 2022 and was imported from the Middle East.

The ARS of Reunion Island maintains its information and awareness system for travelers arriving at Roland-Garros airport. The patient with cholera was treated at La Réunion University Hospital, where precautionary measures were put in place. “His condition does not give rise to concern,” says the ARS.
