European news marked by a tragedy in Berlin, a victory for the daughter of a migrant in Spain and by the visit of the Belgian king to the Democratic Republic of Congo.
A teacher died and eight other people, including teenagers, were seriously injured in Berlin after a vehicle drove into pedestrians. The vehicle, which ended up embedded in a window, was driven by a 29-year-old German. The reasons for his action are not yet known. “The man got out of the car. He broke the window to be able to escape. People tried to stop him, and in a bend, he was stuck on the ground”says a witness.
In Spain, a young girl obtained Spanish nationality after being stateless for seven year. Her migrant mother had given birth on her journey to Spain. With this nationality she obtains access to school or hospital and it is a hope that is reborn for thousands of mothers with a similar destiny.
On RTBF, a look back at the visit of the Belgian royal couple to the Democratic Republic of Congo. A trip placed under the sign of appeasement with the country which was a former colony. “Faced with the Congolese people and those who still suffer from it today, I wish to reaffirm my deepest regret for this wound of the past.”said King Philip.
