The accident occurred around 6:30 p.m. Saturday in Berck-sur-Mer (Pas de Calais). A vehicle drove into passers-by, injuring twelve people.

While the accident occurred a few minutes earlier, the firefighters have already arrived and are working with the injured. It is around 6:30 p.m. Saturday when a vehicle drives into the crowd. The town center of Berck-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais) is then crowded. The car speeding up Rue de l’Impératrice mowed down a dozen people. “I saw a blue car tumble down”, says a witness. The injured were transported to three hospitals in the region. “Twelve people were transported to the hospital center, among them four absolute emergencies and seven relative emergencies”explains the commander of the firefighters of Boulogne-sur-mer.

The driver reportedly lost control of his vehicle

The driver is a 76-year-old man with a disability. The Boulogne-sur-Mer prosecutor favors the thesis of the accident: “The driver allegedly lost control of his vehicle after confusing the brake pedal and the accelerator pedal.” The latter adds: “He tested negative for alcohol and narcotics”. A drama while the city organizes as every year international meetings of kites.
