Do sweets make you sick? Don’t read any further. The Canadian store Candy Funhouse is officially looking for a candy taster, who will be paid 100,000 Canadian dollars (77,000 euros) per year, says the announcement (in English). Please be careful before submitting your application. The person who will be selected for this position of “general manager of confectionery” will have to swallow the trifle of 3,500 candies per month – more than one hundred per day.

“At the beginning of last year, we were looking for bonbonlogues, our tasters of original flavors”explained to AFP Vanessa Janakijevski-Rebelo, spokesperson for the store. “We are now looking for our general manager of confectionery, who will gently guide our candy lovers!” He will be responsible for approving new products, organizing “confectionery board meetings” or to assume the role of “head taster”. Not to mention support for “all things fun” in the business.

The offer is open to anyone living in North America who is five years of age or older. Candy Funhouse said it had already received more than 100,000 applications in two weeks. “The majority are from adults, but about 25% are children”, detailed the spokesperson. An American Twitter user, Matthew Crooks, for example, explained that his 8-year-old daughter had applied, and even created her LinkedIn profile for the occasion. “Thank you for helping her learn about the job and the importance of a strong resume, even though she’s only 8.”

Applicants, of course, must have “golden taste buds” and “a passion for sweets”, specifies the job offer. Once selected, the recruit will be subject to “extensive training in tasting” and will, of course, benefit from comprehensive dental insurance. After so many sweet notes, it would indeed be a shame to end with a salty note.
