A campaign too little too late

Once again, the virus will have been faster than us. The fall wave of COVID is well underway, and cases are on the rise, while the vaccination campaign will not begin before October. Since it takes about two weeks after the vaccine to develop adequate antibody levels, the most vulnerable will therefore remain less well protected for several more weeks, but the virus will continue to spread during this time. Let’s hope that the new variants will not cause too many hospitalizations or long COVID among the population largely already vaccinated in the past and let’s encourage the wearing of masks while waiting at gatherings. Could we have accelerated the approval of the new vaccine and brought forward the vaccination campaign to better protect people at risk?
