According to our information, the victim of this resounding murder is Tinel Timu, a well-known figure within the Romanian community in Montreal.
Mr. Timu was killed by several projectiles from a firearm at 7 a.m., in front of a residence on rue du Havre, on the banks of the Rivière des Prairies.
At least five shots were reportedly fired during the crime.
Seriously injured, Tinel Timu was quickly taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
A huge security perimeter has been erected around the crime scene to protect any evidence that may be there.
Forensic identification technicians were to go to the scene in the morning to analyze the scene.
The murderer fled before the police arrived and had still not been located by mid-morning.
“I was in my bathroom when I heard the gunshots. I heard at least four of them. I rushed to my window to see what was happening and I saw a vehicle leave with a bang, ”said a neighbor, who preferred to conceal his identity.
Businessman Tinel Timu made headlines last September when he was arrested along with two other individuals – including a City of Montreal official – in a corruption case.
Timu had been pinned as part of an investigation by the Permanent Anti-Corruption Unit (UPAC).
Tinel Timu received the National Assembly Medal in 2018 from the Liberal MP for Fabre at the time, Monique Sauvé. She then described him as a “passionate and committed citizen”, as well as an “exceptional leader”.
