A bridge collapses as a truck passes through the Cévennes, the driver injured

One of the arches of a stone bridge collapsed on Monday March 18 when a truck passed through the town of Chamborigaud (Gard), dragging down the vehicle with its fall, whose driver was injured, we learned ‘AFP to the emergency services and the town hall.

The bridge, which spans the Luech river on the D906 north of this village in the Cévennes, about twenty kilometers northwest of Alès, gave way around 4:30 p.m. as the truck, type “sweeper”declared the Gard firefighters in a press release. “An arch of the bridge collapsed, taking a truck with it. Traffic impossible”confirmed on its website the town hall of this town of around 800 inhabitants near Mont Lozère. “About 20 meters have subsided”explained Emile Corbier, the mayor of the town, to France Bleu Gard Lozère.

“The driver of the vehicle, a man around 40 years old, conscious”, was taken care of by emergency services and evacuated by helicopter, according to the firefighters, who employed around forty men and 20 vehicles. The truck’s tank was not punctured in the accident and there is no risk of pollution, according to the gendarmes. The road axis is cut off to traffic and diversions have been put in place, added the town hall, which advises going via the Landeol-Route de Bessèges axis.
