A breakdown on the orange line of the Montreal metro caused a huge queue around the Berri-UQAM station on Thursday.
According to the Société de transport de Montréal (STM), it was an intervention by paramedics at Beaubien station around 4 p.m. which caused an interruption of service between Berri-UQAM and Henri-Bourassa stations.
At the Berri-UQAM station, hundreds of passengers lined up around Place Émilie-Gamelin in the hope of boarding one of the buses called in by the STM to provide a connection to the north.
“A bus service has been requested, but as we are in rush hour, it is proving very difficult to quickly deploy the temporary surface service,” said spokesperson Isabelle A. Tremblay.
Inside the station, the Orange Line platforms were also crowded with users waiting for service to resume.
According to the STM, service should resume around 6 p.m.
