In the summer of 2021, for the Mutek festival, Montreal composer and house DJ Frédéric Blais, known worldwide by his stage name Fred Everything, resurrected his project All Is Well on stage. The album was complete, it finally appeared, two years later, at the right moment, when ambient music reached a peak of popularity, while the days of a latent winter invited us to weave a sonic cocoon. A Break in Timeit’s first of all comfort: taking advantage of his collection of old synths, Blais concocts grooves diaphanous and punctuated by elegant loops of arpeggios, sometimes percussion, on Cosmic Winter at the end of the album for example, the natural deep house of Fred Everything comes back at a gallop. We recognize in the sound construction of the work an affection for the spatial house of the British 1990s, ambient without being vaporous, soaring but embodied, that of The Orb in particular, of Global Communication (the classic 76:14), of the German Pete Namlook by the band. In concert on November 30 at the Phi Center.
