A body was discovered in the trunk of a vehicle that was set on fire Sunday in the east end of Montreal.
Emergency services were notified around 12:25 a.m. that a vehicle was on fire at Pointe aux Prairies Park, on Gouin Boulevard, near Highway 40, in the Rivière-des-Prairies sector.
It was only after the flames were extinguished that firefighters made the gruesome discovery.
“An inanimate body was found in the suitcase of the vehicle in question […] A security perimeter has been erected at the level of the park. Investigators are currently on the scene and a command post has been requested on site,” said Constable Jean-Pierre Brabant, spokesperson for the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM).
“An autopsy should be performed on the body that was found in the vehicle, because for the moment no identification is possible,” said agent Brabant.
A few hours later, another SPVM spokesperson, agent Mariane Allaire Morin, specified that the victim is a man, without providing further details.
She also confirmed that it is the 10and homicide to occur on the island of Montreal since the beginning of the year.
An inspection will also be made on the vehicle to determine the exact causes of the fire.
The SPVM investigation is continuing.
