Tragically disappeared in March 2015, Florence Arthaud will have the right to her biopic, directed by Géraldine Danon. For the occasion, the boat with which she won the 1990 Route du Rhum was found.

For the first time, actress Géraldine Danon finds herself behind the camera. A change motivated by the desire to tell the story of her friend: Florence Arthaud, sailor and first woman to win the Route du Rhum, the most prestigious single-handed transatlantic race. “She’s an icon. She paved the way for a whole generation of female skippers, and not only. She participated in a form of feminism that particularly touches me”details the neo-director.

The film, which is currently in the shooting stage, wants to be realistic and pushes the detail to its climax, to the point of reusing the original boat from its victory in 1990 on the Route du Rhum. “We found him but he was not in France but in the Philippines, we bought him and went to get him”, explains Philippe Poupon, navigator. At 68, Poupon leaves for a Route de Rhum for the film but also for Florence Arthaud, tragically disappeared in March 2015 during a helicopter accident.
