A biofilm about Britney Spears

(New York) Universal Studios announced Thursday that it has acquired the rights to Britney Spears’ memoir. The Woman in Me and will develop a biofilm about the star, directed by Jon M. Chu.


After a competitive auction, Universal won the film rights to the memoir, which has sold more than 2.5 million copies since its release last October. Marc Platt, the veteran producer of Wicked And La La Land “, was chosen to produce the biofilm.

Britney Spears herself celebrated the news on X: “Excited to share with my fans that I have been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt. He has always made my favorite movies… stay tuned,” she wrote.

The 42-year-old singer chronicles in her book her rise from the “Mickey Mouse Club” to global stardom, as well as her struggles with the conservatorship that was dissolved in 2021. The memoir, whose sales were boosted by an audiobook reading by Michelle Williams, included the revelation of her abortion more than 20 years ago, while she was dating Justin Timberlake.

Musical biofilms have been one of the most popular genres in Hollywood in recent years, with recent films featuring Elvis, Amy Winehouse and Bob Marley. Upcoming releases include A Complete Unknownstarring Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan, and a feature film about Michael Jackson due out next year.

Universal is the origin of the 2015 biofilm by the group NWA; Straight Outta Compton.
