It is this Monday, December 11 that a project defended by Gérald Darmanin will arrive at the National Assembly, but it is the subject of a motion to reject. Immigration is a tense issue but one that interests the French most closely.

The majority, relative as it is, holds its breath. The third version of the immigration text arrives in the Assembly on Monday. Supported tirelessly by Gérald Darmanin, the text was toughened by the senatorial right, then toned down in Commission by the deputies. Two sticking points at the center of the debates: state medical aid, which allows access to care for undocumented immigrants; and the regularization of professions in tension.

“We will not be complicit in this failure”

To win this battle, Gérald Darmanin needs some of the votes of the right, a fight far from won: “We will not be complicit in this announced failure. We will not vote on the text of the bill as it was adopted by the Law Commission”, warns Eric Ciotti. But the Minister of the Interior still wants to believe in individual poaching from the right and is putting pressure on: “We have to go to a vote on a text like this. And the president thinks so too (…) If the text is rejected, it will mean that LR does not vote for measures against immigration. »
