Named to the Canadian Hall of Fame in 2018, Martinez accompanies Jeff Francis, elected this year, as well as Justin Morneau and Duane Ward, members of the 2020 vintage.
This induction weekend was also to be a time to celebrate Quebec descriptor Jacques Doucet, but unfortunately he was unable to travel to St. Mary’s for health reasons. John Olerud also had to be absent.
The Canadian Basaball Hall of Fame has already expressed its desire to welcome and celebrate Mr. Doucet and John Olerud with their families in 2023.
Speaking of Martinez, he obviously owes his presence in the Canadian Hall of Fame to his time with the Expos. The Dominican gunner played four seasons with the Montreal club, from 1994 to 1997. He notably won the National Cy Young Trophy at the end of his last campaign with the Expos after posting a record of 17-8 and a sparkling 1.90 earned run average. Martinez had also completed this famous season with 13 full games and four shutouts.
