The commune of Estaimpuis (Belgium) withdrew from Gérard Depardieu the title of honorary citizen which it had awarded him in the summer of 2013 when he resided there, the municipal authorities announced on Saturday December 16.
The French actor’s comments revealed by the France 2 program “Complément d’investigation” “go against the values advocated by the municipality of Estaimpuis”, justified in a press release the mayor and the (deputy) aldermen who made this decision. In the report for “Complément d’investigation” broadcast at the beginning of December, the former sacred monster of French cinema multiplies the misogynistic and insulting remarks while addressing women, not sparing a little girl with obscene remarks.
The withdrawal of this honorary title was announced while in France, the actor wore his Legion of Honor “available” of the Minister of Culture, who announced disciplinary proceedings against him. The lawyers once again denounced a violation of the presumption of innocence of the man who is targeted in France by two complaints for rape and sexual assault, but has not yet been tried.
The actor returns to Belgium
Several Belgian media have reported in recent days the return of Gérard Depardieu to the country, still in the Tournai region (west) near France, as in 2012-2013. “For me, he’s a citizen like any other, no more, no less”declared the mayor of Tournai, Paul-Olivier Delannois, quoted by the Belga agency.
At the end of 2012, Gérard Depardieu settled in the Belgian border village of Néchin, sparking strong criticism, up to the highest level of the State, over the supposed intention to escape the French tax system. This village in the commune of Estaimpuis is known for having attracted several large French fortunes, notably from the Mulliez family (Auchan group). “I am a citizen of the world (…), I am settled in this village above all for its calm”had swept away Gérard Depardieu at the time.
