A balance sheet “above 10 million euros” for the Sale of wines from the Hospices de Beaune

349 pieces of the large barrels of Burgundy wines sold for _“a total amount of at least 10 million euros.”_A first assessment drawn up by Francois Poher, the director of the Hospices Civils de Beaune. A good sum despite a low number of pieces this year, due to a bad harvest and bad weather in spring and summer.

“A very high demand and a real pride for the play of the presidents”

“There has been a very strong demand for Burgundy wines. But the presidents’ room is a real pride ” emphasizes François Poher. “We take the cause of women to the top and it is a source of pride for us hospitable people to have managed a coin for 800,000 euros. We all had chills. ”

Main illustration, the presidents’ coin therefore went to 800,000 euros, or 140,000 euros more than the record already set last year, in an edition in the midst of the Covid pandemic.

After 5 good minutes of auction, the ceiling of 700,000 euros has been exceeded for this 2021 edition. Encouraged by one of the two sponsors of the sale, actor Pio Marmai, the amount finally reached 800,000 euros. The Presidents Room was awarded to two buyers, a French and an Italian, representing the Oeno Group company, based in London.

The other Burgundian grands crus are doing well

Behind the star of the 161st wine sale, the other Burgundian grands crus performed well. 160,000 euros for example for a Clos de la Roche Grand Cru. The tone was set at the start of the auction with a first piece auctioned for an amount of 17,000 euros, a cuvée of 16 pieces of Beaune Dames Hospitalières red wine.

A great added value also for a Pommard 1er cru, started at 22,000 euros, or 5,000 euros more than last year. Price inflation also on the cuvée of Mazis-Chambertin, which makes 1.8 million euros in turnover overall.
