A 7-year-old child died on Tuesday January 30, early in the morning, in a fire in a building in the northern districts, Marseille firefighters confirmed to franceinfo. The tragedy took place in Kalliste Park, an impoverished town in the northern districts of France’s second city, a fire brigade spokesperson told AFP.
The fire broke out around 4:45 a.m. in an apartment on the second floor of the seven in the building. The causes of the fire are currently unknown. The city of Marseille adds that the fire left four injured (four children in absolute emergency).
Residents were evacuated and the fire is now out. The structure of the building is not threatened.
