The day after the accident during which an 83-year-old driver hit 12 children on a bicycle, one of the injured was declared brain dead on Thursday June 6.

In La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), at the scene of the accident between a car and a group of children on bicycles, flowers were laid. Thursday June 6, a 6-year-old girl, hospitalized in Tours (Indre-et-Loire), was declared brain dead. Many residents are waiting for answers about the circumstances of the accident. Wednesday morning, a group of 12 children were riding their bikes when they were hit head-on by a car.

The driver, an 83-year-old woman, swerved to the left, until she was driving in the opposite direction. According to the prosecutor, there is, at this stage, no indication of excessive speed, but the reason why the driver swerved remains to be determined. “What is certain is that she committed a mistake of recklessness, of negligence”, assures Arnaud Laraize, public prosecutor in La Rochelle. The investigation is now open for manslaughter by the driver. The suspect is still interned in a specialized unit.
