A 5-year-old child dies at Village Vacances Valcartier

(Valcartier) A 5-year-old child died following serious injuries allegedly caused by a Murphy bed in a hotel room at the Village Vacances Valcartier, in the Capitale-Nationale region, late Friday afternoon.

According to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), the first responders were called around 5:15 p.m. to go to a place of accommodation on Boulevard Valcartier, in Saint-Gabriel-de-Valcartier.

The victim was transported in critical condition to a hospital. “Unfortunately, his condition deteriorated, then the child died as a result of his injuries,” said SQ spokesperson Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.

As this is an event involving the death of a child under six years old, the investigation was automatically transferred to the major crimes division of the SQ.

The circumstances surrounding this event remained to be clarified on Friday. Witnesses are met and a scene must be assessed by technicians from the forensic identification service, mentioned Sergeant Stéphane Tremblay.

The Coroner’s Office was also notified.
