A 43-year-old motorist lost his life in a violent collision that occurred overnight from Sunday to Monday in Labelle, in the Hautes-Laurentides.
Emergency services were called around 2:30 a.m. to go to Route 117 for a collision involving two vehicles.
According to initial information, a vehicle traveling northbound was violently hit by another car coming at high speed behind it.
Following the force of the impact, the first vehicle mowed down the central cement wall, while the offending vehicle ended up in a wooded area along the road.
The driver of the latter suffered serious injuries and was transported to a hospital where he was declared dead, said a spokeswoman for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
The two individuals who were in the other vehicle were also taken to hospital for treatment of injuries that are not life-threatening, according to the SQ.
A collision investigation reconstructionist and an investigator were dispatched to the scene to analyze the scene and try to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this accident.
Highway 117 was closed in both directions for much of the night to allow investigators to do their job, it added.
“Traffic is now possible there only alternately, and this, for a good part of the morning,” added the SQ.
