A 34-year-old educator is accused of the unpremeditated murder of an 18-month-old toddler, who was found seriously injured this week in a daycare in L’Assomption.

Tomy Carranza Ladry appeared Saturday by videoconference from a police station.
During his appearance in court, the thirty-year-old, covered in a gray blanket, displayed various signs of nervousness. When he read the second-degree murder charge against him, he was unable to hide his amazement.
Carranza Ladry even burst into tears on more than one occasion, covering her face with both hands.
Serious injuries
The Sûreté du Québec, who suspected him since the start of this affair, handcuffed him on Friday.
Remember that a 911 call was first made on Tuesday, concerning a boy in poor condition in a family daycare on rue Labonté.
When emergency services arrived, he suffered significant injuries and was rushed to hospital. His small body showed obvious traces of violence, particularly on the head, our sources indicated.
No complaints
He died of his injuries a few hours later.
According to our information, people around Tomy Carranza Ladry had recently raised doubts with the responsible authorities about the job he held, more specifically about the fact that he “should not take care of young children” .
The Ministry of Family confirmed that no official complaint had been filed. Carranza Ladry’s childcare service was recognized and subsidized by the authorities, but they immediately suspended his license when the investigation was launched.
The Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes resident has no criminal record, according to our research. His case will return to court on December 14, at the Joliette courthouse.
