A 24-year-old climber died when struck by a piece of rock, Tuesday April 16 at the end of the day, in Ariège, France Bleu Occitanie learned from the gendarmerie. The accident occurred at the foot of the Dent d’Orlu routes, a site known to climbers for its long routes of more than 900 meters.

The young man, originally from the Nantes region, was climbing with two other young people in their twenties. He had just finished a route of around a hundred meters when a block came loose from the wall and hit him. The Ariège high mountain gendarmerie platoon intervened on the spot and tried to resuscitate him, in vain.

The site remains open to climbers. A police investigation is underway.
