The Sûreté du Québec arrested a 20-year-old man on Monday evening, just minutes after an armed assault on an apartment building in Val-d’Or, Abitibi-Témiscamingue.
At around 8:30 p.m., the police were called to go to a residential building in 1D Avenue for an altercation between two individuals.
There, they found a 23-year-old man seriously injured by a stabbing weapon. He was taken to hospital to treat injuries that would not be life threatening.
Moments later, patrol officers apprehended a suspect near the scene of the assault.
The 20-year-old was scheduled to appear during the day on Tuesday at the Val-d’Or courthouse.
The exact nature of the charges against him had not yet been determined early Tuesday.
The reasons surrounding this armed attack were not specified by the police authorities.
