It is a very small woman, with a childish face, who appears in the box of the accused. Shrouded in a sleeveless puffer jacket, she sends a cheerful wave to her family in the courtroom. Jade R, barely 19, was tried in immediate appearance by the Bordeaux judicial court on Wednesday, December 22. She was convicted of theft aggravated by recidivism and fraud, after stealing objects worth nearly 100,000 euros in a car in the underground car park of allées Tourny, in Bordeaux. With the help of a friend, she also stole bank cards from the same car, and withdrew 2,200 euros in cash. The court condemns her to four months in prison, carried out under an electronic bracelet at his home, and four months with a probationary stay. She has an obligation to repair the damage caused to the victim and to look for work within two years.

Throughout the hearing, Jade R. explains her gesture with a certain lightness in her voice, responding tit for tat to the president of the tribunal without taking into account the scope of her words. She recognizes the facts bluntly. “I am with a friend of mine in the parking lot, and there we see a Hermès pocket protruding from the trunk of a car”, she explains. The young woman, in possession of a window-breaking hammer, entrusts it to her friend who breaks the windows of the car. Upon his return, the vehicle owner immediately reports the violation to the police. Using video surveillance footage, they identify Jade R., already known to their services for similar facts.

A patrol goes to his mother’s home and calls out to her at the wheel of a car, without a license, around 2 a.m. In the House, most of the stolen items are found, as well as a second glass breaker hammer. “Nothing suspicious about that, everyone has one in their car, right?”, asks the young woman. Jade R. then succeeded in reselling some of the stolen computers to one of her contacts in the Grand Parc district, in Bordeaux. “I know, I sometimes do stupid things, it would be time to stop”, she admits. Preferring first to keep silent the name of her accomplice, she finally admits in full hearing that it was one of her longtime friends who helped her.

A last chance”

“She is not a very difficult delinquent to convince”, notes the prosecutor at the time of his requisitions. The representative of the public prosecutor recalls the context, and the profile of the young defendant already “well known to juvenile justice”, with eight convictions from the top of his 19-year-old. Dropping out of school at 16, a father killed during a settling of scores between drug traffickers, a brother in prison and a mother who lives only on social minima. “How sad, this story of life …”, moved the prosecutor. “Jade R. is part of a habitual delinquency, the proof with these two glass breakers that she keeps preciously at home. But I still hope that a judicial follow-up will have the role of an outstretched hand , this will be his last chance. “ It requires ten months in prison, including five with probationary reprieve.

A sentence that the defendant’s lawyer, Maître Arnaud Bayle, wants to see amended home detention under electronic bracelet. “You have to try what has never been done for her”, he exclaims. “Jade R. had a childhood where she did not go to school, but to the juvenile court. She was not the one who chose that life.” For the lawyer, this offense reveals “two opposing realities: the world of the rich, who live in the 16th arrondissement of Paris and come to the Basque Coast to spend Christmas and the much harsher world in which my client lived, with a murdered father in a settlement of accounts and a brother in prison. “ Maître Bayle will have been heard on the arrangement of the sentence, which will be carried out at his home for “prevent him from going out at night”.
