A 12th victory in a row for Danielle Collins, who advances to the final in Charleston

(Charleston) Miami tournament champion Danielle Collins earned a 12e consecutive match and punched his ticket to the final of the Charleston tournament by beating Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday.

Collins will try to win a second title in a row.

In Sunday’s final, she will play fourth seed Daria Kasatkina, who defeated top seed Jessica Pegula in three sets.

“Another good week of tennis,” said Collins, who announced this season will be his last. I like to come here and fight. That’s why I play and that’s what I’m doing right now. »

The third set between Pegula and Kasatkina required a tiebreaker. Kasatkina won six of the last eight points in this one, to go with a 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5) victory.

“Being in the final always gives you something special for extra energy,” said Kasatkina, who played three three-set matches this week.

Collins’ victory wasn’t as dramatic. The American took a 3-0 lead in the first set, and when Sakkari tied the score, she won three games in a row again to take the set, 6-3.

Sakkari committed his sixth double fault of the game to confirm his opponent’s victory.

Collins has won 24 of his last 25 rounds.

This would be the third time that Kasatkina, champion in Charleston in 2017, will play for a title this season.
