In La Rochelle, Wednesday June 5, an 83-year-old motorist mowed down a group of 12 children on bikes. A 10-year-old girl was declared brain dead, and four other children are hospitalized.
Emotions run high in front of the school where 10-year-old Margot attended. Thursday June 6, early in the afternoon, the little girl hospitalized in Tours (Indre-et-Loire) was declared brain dead. The news upsets the father whose daughter was injured in the accident. In the neighborhood, the emotion is just as strong. “I’m very sad, I put myself in my parents’ place. I ride my bike every day”says a passerby.
It was 10 a.m. on Wednesday June 5 in La Rochelle (Charente-Maritime), when a car driven by an 83-year-old woman veered to the left and hit 12 children on bicycles. On Thursday June 6 evening, four of them were still hospitalized, including one in serious condition. The mayor of La Rochelle spoke in a press release: “I have just learned the terrible news that we all feared. I am devastated and dismayed. Today is the time for reflection.” The investigation opened for involuntary injuries was reclassified as manslaughter.
