“A shock of extreme violence” for the mayor of Libourne

The dramatic events took place during the night of Saturday to Sunday June 2, in the town of Libourne. Three 19-year-olds lost their lives in a road accident. The two other passengers are in absolute emergency.

The accident occurred during the night from Saturday to Sunday, around 2:30 a.m. A vehicle, with five passengers aged 17 to 19 on board, left the road on departmental road 1089, in Libourne, on the ring road near the Ange bakery.

Three 19-year-olds were declared dead by Samu. The two other passengers aged 17 and 18 were transported in absolute emergency to Libourne hospital, one in absolute emergency with a life-threatening prognosis, and the other in a state of polytrauma, according to information from the gendarmerie.

The young people on board would be from the Coutras region, specifies the mayor of Libourne, Philippe Buisson, contacted this morning.

For the moment, the circumstances of the accident remain unclear. “All we know is that the vehicle left the road,” specifies the gendarmerie. Philippe Buisson, speaks “from a shock of absolutely extreme violence”. Among the questions that arise, the possible presence of a third party responsible for the accident. The city’s surveillance videos should be used to try to shed light on these elements. The investigation was entrusted to the Libourne gendarmerie brigade.

Departmental road 1089 was cut in both directions during the intervention. Traffic was able to resume shortly before 9 a.m.
