US Women’s Open | Minjee Lee causes a triple tie

(Lancaster) A single shot put Minjee Lee in title contention at the U.S. Women’s Open on Saturday.

The two-time major tournament champion posted a card of 66 (-4) and joined Andrea Lee and Wichanee Meechai at the top of the rankings.

Andrea Lee overcame some mistakes early in her round and was even three shots behind at one point. She made no bogeys on the back nine to play 67.

Meechai, the only golfer who reached a cumulative score of -6 during the tournament, saved two pars to finally complete the course at the Lancaster Golf Club in 69 strokes.

The three players find themselves tied at -5.

Nelly Korda and other top stars of women’s golf are already long gone, leaving five golfers under par after 54 holes.

Minjee Lee was four shots behind and didn’t appear to be going anywhere when she made an approach for an eagle that stopped two feet from the cup on the seventh hole. His tee shot at 12e pennant proved just as impressive and she scored a birdie.

His round of 66 tied the lowest of the tournament this week. Hinako Shibuno, a former British Women’s Open champion, made seven birdies for a 66 on Saturday and is in fourth place, at -3.

The other under-par golfer, Yuka Saso, who won the 2021 United States Women’s Open, posted a 69 to complete the top-5at -2.

Quebecer Maude-Aimée Leblanc played 73 and is currently 39e position, at plus-9.
