In the commune of Saint-Capraise-de-Lalinde, an association aims to restore the population of Atlantic salmon in the Dordogne. For this, it can count on help from the European Union, which financed a dam in the river.
In Saint-Capraise-de-Lalinde (Dordogne), the dam has become an obstacle for salmon, which will reproduce upstream of the river. It was Europe that financed the solution. “The fish arrive at the dam, and take a passageway called the fish elevator”, explains Isabelle Caut, mission manager for the Migado association. The latter aims to restore the population of Atlantic salmon in the Dordogne.
Some fish are captured for a breeding program. “Without the help of the European Union, we would not be able to carry out these operations. It is a mission which costs around 65,000 euros”, explains Isabelle Caut. The collected salmon arrive in a fish farming center, a few kilometers from the dam. Here too, the EU put its hand in its pocket, with around 90,000 euros in subsidies.
